Love Island hopefuls are currently getting ready to send off their applications for next year’s show.

But while they think they’re in for a chance of becoming the next king or queen of the villa, it turns out they might need an agent to help get them on their way.

That’s right, according to a DCMS Committee report (via The Mirror) only six contestants were selected this year from the application process.

After 85,000 people applied, only 36 islanders were chosen, in which just 16 per cent of these are said to be from the applications.

Other than that, the remaining 84 per cent landed a spot on the popular dating show with help from casting agencies.

The report said: ‘On series 5 of Love Island to date (15 July), there have been 36 contributors.

’24 were found and cast by the programme’s casting team, six were put forward by professional agents, and six came through the general application.’

A Love Island spokesperson told Metro.co.uk: ‘We are very transparent about how we find people for the show.’

They added: ‘Whether they are invited to audition or apply themselves, everyone who is seen for the show goes through exactly the same process.’

This year saw the likes of Amber Gill and Greg O’Shea took the £50,000 prize, despite Tommy Fury and Molly-Mae Hague being the obvious winners.

After scooping the prize, the couple went onto thank their fans in an adorable loved up video.

‘Like, I actually can’t believe it,’ Amber said beaming from ear to ear.

Looking lost for words, her beau chimed in: ‘I never thought this was going to happen, like at any stage this was going to happen.’

While holding onto Greg’s hand, Amber covered her mouth as she giggled away to herself.

‘It’s like amazing,’ she laughed before adding: ‘I have no words, like I have no words.’

Greg smiled: ‘I was only in the villa two weeks ago, only two weeks ago – and it just went from there,’ he then planted a kiss on his gal before thanking ‘all the Irish fans’.

Love Island: The Reunion airs on Sunday, at 9pm, on ITV2.
